Creative Expeditions is the creative journal of Simon Nicholas Pattenden. Simon attended Brighton University during the 1990s. He now works across creative communications, branding, material and making, fine arts, video, photography and illustration.
Community projects, workshops & exhibitions
Simon has co-designed creative workshops at the University of Falmouth, supported community projects as a Creative Practitioner, exhibited at regional arts groups and managed the project/partner communications of several interdisciplinary environment and human health projects at the University of Exeter.

RENEW Biodiversity is an interdisciplinary multi partner project led by researchers and practitioners at the National Trust and the Environment and Sustainability Institute at the University of Exeter.
From 2023 to 2026, Simon provided impact focused visual communications such as video, event photography, animation, web design, report design, brand management and internal communications in the form of newsletters, blog writing and bulletins to promote a range of collaborative research outputs with organisations such as BookTrust, South West Peatland Partnership, Poetry Society, The Wildlife Trusts, Natural England, National Trust and many others.

In 2025, Simon joined the Patagonia funded Catchafire volunteer initiative providing multimedia editing and design.

Working for the department of Research Impact at University of Exeter the drive was to promote a healthy housing collaboration aimed at improving living conditions for Cornwall’s vulnerable residents as well as build an understanding of what makes a healthy house.
Work packages included the production of scientific posters, event merchandising, web editing and social media management with periodic analytics reporting.

"The ICARUS project’s main objective was to develop integrated tools and strategies for urban impact assessment in support of air quality and climate change governance in EU Member States leading to the design and implementation of appropriate abatement strategies to improve the air quality and reduce the carbon footprint in European cities."
My role was to simply support University of Exeter project leads through a complex period of delivery during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Despite obvious restrictions ICARUS successfully met it’s research based objectives due to the collaborative problem solving of research teams across EU Member States.

From 2017 - 2018 Simon gained a postgraduate qualification from the University of Plymouth, obtained to support creative practice and community engagement.
